Ideas from Buddhist Social Theory will be introduced to spark a discussion on how we can bring an awareness of injustice into our lives without falling into "good guys vs. bad guys" thinking. Dividing the world into "us and them" or "friends and enemies" risks reinforcing rather than interrupting habits of using aggression to solve problems.

Schedule:
Meditation: 7:00-7:30
Talk / Disucssion: 7:30 - 9:00 Generosity: Wisely giving one's time, energy and money. The Buddhist teachings point out how generosity creates a sense of richness and wealth in the giver. Yet over-volunteering can lead to burnout. A discussion on learning how to give without depleting one's resources.
Teacher Bio: Geoff Bannoff has been meditating in the Shambhala community for a third of a century. He helped found a mid-sized industrial manufacturing company a quarter century ago, and currently oversees the information technology aspects of that business.
Please join us for a screening of the new film, "Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action," a moving documentary about the convergence of spirituality and social activism. As stated on the film's website, http://www.fiercelight.org:
'Fueled by the belief that "another world is possible," Fierce Light is a compelling, global journey into the world of spirit in action, an exploration of what Martin Luther King called "Love in Action," and Gandhi called "Soul Force"; what Ripper is calling "Fierce Light." '
We will follow with a discussion of the film and its relationship with our practices both on and off the cushion.
